Keep moving Parkinson's exercise class is on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. Parkinson's Tai Chi is held Thursdays at 10:15 a.m. Both classes are at CoxHealth Fitness Center at The Meyer Center. Get support Several support groups are available in southwest Missouri, including a group for Parkinson's caregivers. "Some people are hesitant to come to a support group, but it's a fabulous resource," says Karen Ek. Parkinson's Clinic of the Ozarks This clinic offers diagnostic and therapy evaluations, and evaluations and follow-up care for deep brain stimulation. Team members include board certified neurologists, registered nurses, social services workers and physical, speech and occupational therapists. Stay optimistic Karen's advice to others in the support group is to stay optimistic. "It's a nuisance, but don't let it get you down," she says of the disease. Bill says his life has changed some since the diagnosis, but he continues to stay active through exercise and working outside. Karen says they still go out to dinner, attend church regularly and spend time with their family during the summers at their lake house in Wisconsin. "I can't go at the same pace as I did before, but I still feel pretty good," he says. Listen to Bill and Karen's story at coxhealth.com/bill.
