Vendors such as Ariba and Commerce One used the Internet to extend the reach of their solutions to include not only the suppliers, but also commerce service providers for logistics and finance. For example, Coupa (www.coupa.com) provides suppliers the ability to register their business, define how and where their customer orders should be sent (e-mail, Internet) and to maintain an online catalog of all the goods and services they provide. This information is then easily accessed by their customers when making buying decisions. In 2013, we've seen e-procurement vendors grow their reach to include the entire source-to-pay processes, with a major push toward e-invoicing. Companies are learning that by automating the submission of invoices by suppliers, they can generate huge savings in efficiency and cost control. One software vendor with significant experience in small- and medium-sized businesses has found evidence that automation can produce $45 per order and $25 per invoice in process savings (source: Coupa Software). Today's fully hosted, cloud-based solutions, particularly for small- and medium-sized businesses, offer very low upfront costs, minimal IT commitment, enhanced reporting and cash management services. Key benefits of adopting an automated invoicing process, according to the PayStream Advisors 2012 Workflow Automation Survey, include results as follows: + 75% of all adopters reported shorter invoice approval cycles. PAPER IS STILL THRIVING While great gains have been made in the adoption of e-procurement and e-invoicing solutions, there are still huge opportunities for improvements in trading invoices between businesses. More survey data suggests that even though the volume of paper invoices has dropped from 75% to 59% over the last year, there is still a majority of invoicing through manual processes. 8004873363 info@vintegrate.com 90 V I N E YARD & WINERY MANAGEMENT | Sept - Oct 2013 w w w. v w m m e d i a . c o m
