Auburn University The Auburn University AIAS Chapter has completed another successful year. The first, big event of the year was our annual Pumpkin Carve. Pumpkin Carve is a great opportunity for the community to come together, and to spread creativity beyond the walls of our school. The event has grown from simply carving pumpkins to now including a live internet stream of the day's events. The day ends with a costume and pumpkin competition. This year will be the 25th anniversary of the event, and we're hoping for it to be the most successful Pumpkin Carve yet. The date of the event will either be October 24, the Friday before Halloween, or November 1, the Friday following it. As a chapter, we built our first project for Freedom by Design. Our client was Little Tree Preschool, a special needs school that asked for new flooring, tables, and chairs for their classroom. The design consisted of a modular table that was adaptable for different activities, from drawing table to chalkboard. The chairs and tables were constructed using our shop's CNC router, allowing us to re-fabricate the furniture if needed in the future. We plan to work with Little Tree Preschool again this year, focusing this time on solving storage issues. We attended four conferences this past year, and received the honor of hosting the 2013 South Quad Conference this Fall. Our chapter has teamed up with Tuskegee University's AIAS Chapter to plan the CONNECT Conference, which will take place from October 17 to 20, 2013. The conference will be based in Montgomery, AL, but includes plans to visit Auburn and Tuskegee campuses, as well as a day trip to Auburn's Rural Studio in Hale County.
