Tuskegee University This year's Career Focus event was bigger, better more interactive and more informative than ever. It was held in September and featured a number of architectural firms, construction companies and graduate schools. Students were able to meet and interact with representatives from these companies and get advice that will be beneficial as we proceed through school and into the profession. A couple of highlights from this year's event were presentations by Mr. Lew Myers, Business Director of the Freelon Group and Mr. Edward Tarlton, Texas A&M's Help Consulting. First year through fifth year students also received studio visits from representatives of participating firms who gave useful critiques on their respective projects. Others participated in a panel discussion led by Tuskegee alumni. Tuskegee had a good delegation participate in the 2012 South Quad Conference, held in Greenville, South Carolina. The theme of the conference was Evolve. It was held in conjunction with Fall for Greenville, a food festival featuring lots of city activities. Attending from Tuskegee were Autumn Roberts, Kwame Hudson, Stanley Hendrix and Brandon Fennel, and fifth year students Michael Ash, Timothy Matthews and Jennifer Taylor. Jennifer Taylor and Tim Matthews were among the six team members who were awarded 1st place for their charette design based on historic preservation of an old barn house located on the Clemson University campus. We are so proud of Jennifer Taylor. She is the incoming president of the AIAS. She will be moving to Washington, D.C. where she will have an office in the AIA headquarters building. She will have a busy year working with all of the AIAS chapters, traveling to their meetings and working with the AIA staff. Congratulations Jennifer on a position well earned. Lastly, we hope all Alabama architectural firms will participate in the South Quad Conference planned for October 17 – 20, in downtown Montgomery. We are excited to be hosting this conference along with the Auburn AIAS chapter. We need sponsorship and plan to reach out to all Alabama firms. In closing, we extend a warm invitation to all Alabama firms to come see what we are doing here at Tuskegee University. We have a beautiful campus and we would love to show you around. Just contact any of us at the AIAS chapter. Alabama Architecture & Design Resource Guide 10
