Reflect. And Appreciate. These are the three words the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) president, Glenn Jacobsen, said to more than 400 volunteers who came to work at Arlington National Cemetery for PLANET's 17th annual Renewal & Remembrance event. Green industry professionals alike worked side by side landscaping, repairing irrigation systems, trimming trees, liming and much more to lend a helping hand to the 164 employees who maintain the 16-mile cemetery. "Our fist year was to prove to Arlington that we could do the work here, do it the right way at the highest standard that they always require and to earn another job," says Phil Fogarty, owner of Crowley's/ Weed Man in Euclid, Ohio, who has been involved since the program's first year when it was held in the winter of 1997. "Our first mission was to earn another mission." Since then, more work has been added, including liming, landscaping, tree work, irrigation, cabling and lightning protection.
