Total Landscape Care is a proud supporter of... Ask Not What Your Community Can Do For You Stop thinking about your business for a second. Yes, running a landscape company requires a lot of focus, especially since it's your livelihood. But, to take your business and community presence to another level, you'll need to open your eyes to the people and needs in your town. A perfect example of someone who lives a service-focused life is a veteran I met in Hoover, Alabama. "Don't think about yourself," says Rear Admiral John T. Natter, U.S. Navy, who served our country for 40 years. "Think of others and how you can serve your country in some way, whether on a local or national basis. If you do that, everything else will take care of itself." Besides it being "the right thing to do," donating your time and resources shines a positive light on your business that no amount of marketing can achieve. That may mean maintaining a park, donating landscape supplies to a school, hanging Christmas lights for disabled residents or providing services for veterans and their families. And as we remember the 12th anniversary of Sept. 11, you could also offer military families a discount this month. (To see more ideas, visit totallandscapecare. com/gallery and check out the service project photos submitted by landscapers.) Reaching even farther, you could take your efforts to a national level, like more than 400 green industry professionals did in July at the Arlington National Cemetery (read about this event on page 9). No matter your company's size, budget or location, there's something you can do to give back. Lauren Heartsill Dowdle Now, get started!
