Upcoming Lunch & Learn September 18th Lunch & Learn: Jenny Nolan presents the PRINCIPLES OF THE DISC BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENT like you have never heard it presented before! Have you ever sat in an employee or board meeting and thought, "I would really like to slap you, but I am still smiling." Almost without exception, successful individuals have one thing in common: they know themselves. Knowledge is indeed power, especially when you learn to recognize the patterns of behavior not only in yourself, but in others! The DISC profile is a tried and proven assessment of an individual's behavioral tendency. It takes into consideration a variety of ways we communicate: words we use, the posture we take, facial expressional and tone of voice, to name a few. All four behavioral styles: DOMINANT, INFLUENCING, STEADY AND COMPLIANT will be reviewed in the lively and informative reminder of what it takes to make your organization thrive! Charles Lindsay, CPA (MSAE member) and Joseph Tommasini, CPA, updated the luncheon attendees to the timely BP Oil Spill Claims process and updates on laws and best practices for Mississippi associations. Tommasini lead the portion of the program relating to the BP claims process as a follow-up to the article published in the Spring edition of MSAE Connections, "The BP Oil Spill Settlement: How Much is Your Claim." He encouraged all to at least investigate the possibility of a claim with your CPA or other financial advisor as the organizations excluded from the action are very limited and your organization does not have to be located in the coastal areas. If you want to review that article again and cannot locate your copy of Connections, you may view the digital version at www.msae-net.org. Charles Lindsey takes to his "makeshift soap box" to bring home his insistence that association executives stay informed and accountable to the requirements! Lindsay reminded association executives of their compliance with IRS 990 filings, required policies and other hot topics. A summary of this presentation can be found on page 10 of this issue. "I can't believe Charles can make these topics interesting?" "I am not an Association Executive and I even found that interesting!" "Are you sure he is an accountant?" These were just some of the comments following Charles Lindsay's lively presentation of CEO and CFO responsibilities in this non-profit profession.
