MUSKY Mania INTERSTATE Sportsman by Don Kirk 8 ProTruckerOnline.com May • 2014 O n my last trip to Bass Pro Shops I got lost in the section of the store that was devoted to selling lures and baits for catching everything from walleye to Wahoo. Doubly incredible is the seemingly endless of rows of lures with an asking price of $25 each or more. I paid less for my last coon hound! e kicker though is that it is well known fact that most lures are designed to catch the attention of shermen, not sh. It reminds me of the story about the fellow describing the marvels of the thermos bottle to keep its contents hot or cold, then being asked how the thermos bottle was smart enough to know which to do. Here's some good news if you are a driver attracted to shing but who was never schooled in the science of angling. More sh are caught per hour by anglers using live and natural baits than those tot- ing tackle boxes crammed full of expensive plugs and baits. All bait shermen need is a rudimentary knowledge of the food pref- erences of this quarry and a small tackle box stocked with bobbers, and a modest selection of hooks and sinkers. Of course a minnow bucket is handy a lot of the time as is stringer for holding your catch. PROTR0514__InterstateSportsman.indd 1 4/10/14 9:49 AM
