The company grew in carefully mea- sured steps, and with the fleet up to a dozen trucks in 1988, John Sr. knew change was again ahead. This time, it would affect the fleet. "We were unhappy with the trucks we were running," says John Sr. "It wasn't so much drivetrain issues – it was the cab and its components. That's when we got our first Peterbilts." Driver appeal Drivers instantly took to the new Peterbilt Model 379s, remembers John Sr. "It was like they were running Fords, and we had just given them new Cadillacs." By the time tradeouts were complete three years later, the Goodluck fleet was all Peterbilt, for good. Some changes still lie ahead, however. Looking to maximize their fuel economy, the company integrat- ed aerodynamic Model 387s into the fleet soon after the truck was introduced, and eventually transitioned to the Model 587.
