Model 587s. They decided on the PACCAR MX, and suffice it to say, the performance of the engine since has put John Sr.'s mind at ease. "Our fuel efficiency has been excellent with the combination of the Model 587 and the MX engine," he says. "We've had virtually no problems with the engines at all, and we couldn't say that about our past engines, particularly with the emis- sions technology." Perhaps most important to the com- pany, however, is the fact that their equipment answers the call, daily. "We have extremely time-sensitive cargo," says John Sr. "Our delivery times are timed to a window of plus or minus half an hour. That's a high standard, and we meet it at better than a 95 percent rate. "Naturally, we need the kind of equipment, like the Model 587 and the MX engine, that can meet our custom- ers' demands." Steady approach As for the future, don't expect a rapid growth spurt out of the company, according to John Sr. "I've seen companies outgrow their working capital, and fail because of it," he says. "If we buy a vehicle, we have a plan for it. "But any vehicles we buy will be Peterbilts. Their people and their trucks have always taken care of us." FIRST CLASS 17
