FedEx's less-than-truckload segment said it is considering an appeal and other options following the Oct. 14 vote. The prior week, city and road drivers at the company's service center in Cinnaminson, N.J., voted against joining the union. The Teamsters also have petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to allow votes to unionize at other FedEx Freight locations in Indianap- olis and Harrisburg, Pa. The union also has set its sights on Con-way's 500 loca- tions. On Sept. 12, driver and dock workers at the logistics and transportation company's loca- tion in Laredo, Texas, became the fi rst to join by a 55-49 vote. In union representation elections in California Oct. 23, Con-Way employees in Santa Fe Springs and San Fer- nando Valley voted to remain union-free. In downtown Los Angeles, employees voted in favor of union representation. – Jill Dunn and Kevin Jones Teamsters win fi rst U.S. FedEx Freight vote PARTNERS IN BUSINESS TIP: USE OVERDRAFT PROTECTION Find out what your bank offers for this service, which automatically draws from your savings account or credit card account to cover a bad check. The credit card option has obvious problems for an undisci- plined operator, but if the card balance is paid off quickly, any interest charges will be a lot less costly than bouncing a check. The Partners in Business program is produced by Overdrive and the consultants at ATBS, the nation's largest owner-operator business services fi rm. It is sponsored by Ryder and Goodyear Smart Fleet.
