18 December 2014 Better Roads Bergkamp VSB Box offers fl exibility Bergkamp has released its Variable Width Spreader Box (VSB), which is de- signed to offer fl exibility in micro surfacing work. Avaialble in 8- to 13-foot, 9- to 14-foot and 10- to 15-foot models, the VSB eliminates construction joints with its ability to expand and contract while paving. An optional 16-foot width is also available. The unit has four augurs: two to feed the material to the center of the box, and two to evenly distribute the mix during placement. The VSB connects to the paver's hydraulic system and adjusts when the operator uses the levers located on the handrails of the box. The fully expandable, hydraulically driven ribbon augers have a 12-inch pitch, while the primary and secondary strike-offs can slide within a guide tube when the box expands or contracts during paving. The unit is designed to fi t Bergkamp pavers but can be customized for other brands. betterroads.com/bergkamp-vsb Topcon P-32 system has ST-3 sonic tracker Topcon Positioning Systems rolled out its updated P-32 asphalt paving system at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2014 early this year. New features include an ST-3 sonic tracker, anti-vibration slope sensor and fi rmware update to the GC-35 control box. The ST-3 sonic tracker is designed to provide optimal position indication on string lines, a wide range of linear detection and work well in tight areas. The slope sensor is added to improve accuracy in challenging conditions. The fi rmware update is designed to offer improved slope accuracy data by displaying the cross slope value when the control box is set in elevation control mode on both sides. Block slope calibration prevents operators from changing the slope sensor while the system is in operation. betterroads.com/topcon-p-32-update Kobelco's SK850LC excavator is largest in line The SK850LC is the largest in Kobelco's line, with a 510-horsepower engine and three work modes to tailor engine rpms and hydraulics to the job at hand. The machine's Total Control System senses input from the operator and adjusts hydraulics based on the work. An auto-acceleration function smoothly increases engine rpms and hydraulic fl ow in coordination with the operator's movements, and an auto-deceleration function reduces engine rpms after a set time of inactivity. betterroads.com/kobelco-conexpo-excavators-demo-machines Cimline DuraHook System permanently patches potholes Cimline Pavement Maintenance Group's DuraHook is a long-term pothole patching solution. The system uses a truck's chassis and offers quick change-out. It features DuraPatcher's spray-injection patching. The unit is designed to permanently patch a pothole by using compressed air to rid the pothole of loose debris, spraying emulsion into the hole as a binder, forcefully spraying emulsion coated aggre- gate to compact the product and fi ll the hole and spraying dry aggregate over the patch to allow traffi c to begin traveling immediately. A 74-horsepower John Deere diesel engine pow- ers the pothole patching system. The unit carries 6 yards of aggregate and 250 gallons of emulsion and includes an onboard compressor. betterroads.com/durahook.
