THE NEW EVANS PARK IN THE COWICHAN VALLEY IS CERTAIN TO ATTRACT INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION AND REGIONAL ENVY ay 7, 2011 proved to be a historic day for the District of North Cowichan as it was opening day at Evans Park, a recently constructed seven field baseball/softball complex centrally located on Somenos Road in North Cowichan. Along with the seven ball fields, Evans Park consists of 2 multi-purpose fields that will serve the community with a much needed sports complex that is capable of accommodating activities such as soccer, lacrosse, baseball, softball and field hockey while providing a two -storey field house, change rooms, washrooms, a concession stand, batting cages and a parking lot. Combined with the nearby Sherman Road Soccer Park, Evans Park ensures the community of North Cowichan is provided with a large first class sports facility that will accommodate the vast number of leagues and tournaments that flock to the area annually. Construction on the 4 million dollar complex started on May 10, 2010, nearly a year before the first pitch NORTH COWICHAN MAYOR TOM WALKER was thrown. From the time of ground breaking to the opening of the new facility the District of North Cowichan in cooperation with the Cowichan Valley Regional District, City of Duncan, Cowichan Exhibition Society, Vancouver Island University, Cowichan Valley School District, Duncan Junior Baseball and Delcan Engineering worked diligently to ensure the ball fields would not only support the sporting community of North Cowichan but also provide an opportunity for the area to host Zone, Provincial, Western Canadian and National competitions.
