Global public health or- ganization NSF International and Australian-based certifi- cation organization Global- Mark have partnered to provide WaterMark certifica- tion, which is required for all plumbing products used in Australia. The partnership combines Global-Mark's ex- pertise in Australian water regulations with NSF Inter- national's experience in test- ing and certifying plumbing products to national and international standards. MARL Technologies ma- chinist Trevor Fandrick was the winner of Metalworking Production & Purchasing magazine's 2015 recognition program honoring talented young individuals making significant contributions to Canada's manufacturing industry. Fandrick also competed in the Worldskills Competition, James Taylor Virdell Sr., an NGWA past president, passed away in December 2014. He became a water well contractor early and de- veloped and was owner of Virdell Drilling Inc. in Llano, Texas. His family has drilled in Cen- tral Texas for five generations. Virdell was elected to the NGWA Board of Directors in 1977 before serving as NGWA President in 1984. He was presented with the NGWA Life Member Award in 1990. Dewey Hyrum Petersen, owner of Petersen Bros. Drilling Co. Inc. in West Bountiful, Utah, passed away in December 2014. He had a vast knowledge of the construction and development of water wells and passed his knowledge on to many. Petersen was one of the founding fathers of the Utah Ground Water Association and served as its president in 2008 and 2009. He served two work missions for Africare in Nigeria, helping to teach the skills needed to drill water wells. Thomas A. Tibor, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, an account representative with Baroid IDP, passed away in January. His hard work and dedication provided him with many accomplishments throughout his career. Tibor was a valued member of the Baroid family. John M. Dufford of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away in January. He served as a director of the Northeast Water Well Association, the Mid Atlantic Water Well Board, and an officer of the Connecticut Water Well Association, from whom he received the Distinguished Service Award. He founded Dufford Drilling Co. Inc. in Glastonbury as a part-time operation drilling water wells, and it soon became his full-time business and remains in operation today. Dufford received the NGWA Life Member Award in 2002. Harry Glass, of Camarillo, California, passed away in January. He was considered a company patriarch at WellJet, where he was noted for his wisdom, inspiration, and his no- nonsense style. Paul Phelps, of Santa Paula, California, passed away in February. He was a general manager at WellJet, where he was noted for his ebullience, positive energy, and multi-faceted practical skills. Phelps was a member of the National Ground Water Association. Bill Granger, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, passed away in March. He was a sales man- ager for Water-Right Inc. in Appleton and served as president of WaterCare at Water- Right. Granger was also a past president and member of the Water Quality Association. Roy Myers, one of the founders of Myers Brothers Well Drilling Inc. in Hanford, Cali- fornia, passed away in June. When he was younger he worked for the family business and he and his brothers helped their father drill cable tool wells. Roy and his three brothers later joined to form their company. Myers was a pioneer in the water well drilling business in the vast San Joaquin Valley for more than 60 years. Scott Orr, pump division manager for Hydro Resources–Rocky Mountain Inc. in Fort Lupton, Colorado, passed away in July. He worked for Adams City Pump Co. in Commerce City, Colorado, and later joined AmWest Inc., where he helped build a water management company famous throughout the Midwest and West. AmWest later became part of Hydro Resources. Orr wrote and published many articles on water management and received many awards in his field. He served as a regular columnist for NGWA's e- publication, NGWA Toolkit, and wrote on water systems. Water Well Journal takes time to remember once again the following groundwater professionals who passed away in late 2014 and 2015. Each of them made an impact on their profession and will be missed.
