Roundbrix Launches WinematchConnect App California-based Roundbrix, in conjunction with SIMpalm in Silver Spring, Md., has launched Wine- match Connect, an iOS app designed to help people track the wines they taste at a wine event, restaurant or anywhere wine is served. The app has a built-in QR scanner and picture capture technology to scan any wine and save it in the app. PEOPLE Dr. S. Kaan Kurtural Joins UC Davis The University of California, Davis, Department of Viticulture and Enology welcomes Dr. S. Kaan Kurtural as the new cooperative extension specialist in viticul- ture. Previously, he was an associate professor in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at California State University, Fresno. Dr. Kurtural steps into a posi- tion vacated by UC Davis faculty member Dr. Jim Wol- pert, who retired nearly three years ago. Markus Keller to Direct ASEV Publications Markus Keller, Chateau Ste. Michelle distinguished professor of viticulture at Washington State Univer- sity, will direct the American Society for Enology and Viticulture's (ASEV) scientific, peer-reviewed pub- lications starting March 2016. During his three-year appointment, Dr. Keller will work closely with current Science Editor Dr. Linda Bisson, who is retiring from the editorial leadership position. Janie Brooks Heuck Appointed to WineAmerica WineAmerica, the national association of Ameri- can wineries in Amity, Ore., has appointed Janie Brooks Heuck of Brooks Wines to its board of directors. As the Oregon regional seat, Heuck will represent the state's grapegrowers and winemak- ers in the organization's efforts to encourage the development of winery growth via the advance- ment and advocacy of sound public policy. Jordan's Lisa Mattson and Rob Davis Honored The North Bay Business Journal (NBBJ) recent- ly named Jordan Winery's Lisa Mattson as Chief Marketing Officer of the Year. The Healdsburg, Calif.-based Jordan Winery's Rob Davis was named Winemaker of the Year. NBBJ's Wine Industry Awards was conceived three years ago to recog- nize individuals and companies for their outstand- ing innovation and leadership in the wine business. New Air Time for Rick Kushman and Paul Wagner Writers Rick Kushman and Paul Wagner are tak- ing their war against wine snobs to Fridays at 10 a.m. PT, on both a podcast and broadcast on KVON AM 1440 radio in Napa, Calif. Recorded at Capital Public Radio in Sacramento, the show includes questions from listeners, interviews, wine recom- mendations and an assault on bad wine writing. Patrick Baker to Teach at WBI The Wine Business Institute (WBI) at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, Calif., has added Patrick Baker to its roster of industry experts teach- ing the online Certificate in Wine Business Manage- ment. He currently serves as North American sales director for Vintrace, formerly VINx2, a cloud-based software company that helps track developments in production, inventory, quality, sales, compliance and reporting.
