Over time, I devel- oped an appreciation for all types of wine styles (I used to be one of those "reds only" people) and what went into making them happen. I created a network of wine industry profession- als who kindly took the time to tell me their stories, share their craft and tour me around their vineyards and grow- ing regions. And now my world of wine knowl- edge is opening even wider. I'm so excited to learn about the different types of wines across the United States as well as the details of what it takes to grow and make them. I'm equally excited to meet the people behind the magic. My thirst for indus- try know-how and my ability to spot trends and important subjects and events will be shared with enthusi- asm and a smile. With a nod to my predecessor, Tina Caputo (whose feet must be really huge, since everyone keeps telling me how hard it will be to fill her shoes), I'm as pleased as ever to be taking the helm here. Not that the stuff I was drinking before was crap (at least not all of it); it just didn't come close. From there I was hooked and decid- ed to learn everything I could about wine. At the time, I was finishing up my bachelor's in journalism at San Francis- co State University. One of my assign- ments was to come up with an idea for a new publication. I decided to pursue a plan for a trade magazine that focused on the wine industry. While research- ing that idea, guess what I found? Yep, Vineyard & Winery Management maga- zine. And while that discovery neces- sitated a Plan B, look where I've now found myself. It's amazing how things work out sometimes.
