50 commercial carrier journal | april 2016 Orbcomm adds cellular-only fleet management platform O rbcomm, a provider of ma- chine-to-machine and Internet of Things systems, added a cellu- lar-only fleet management system to its portfolio. The SkyWave IDP-782 device connects to the viaFleet Web application for tracking, monitoring and managing trucks, railcars and other mobile assets. The SkyWave system is designed to help with managing fuel costs, routes, driver behavior and cargo and driver security. The SkyWave device provides the same functionality as Orbcomm's dual-mode (cellular and satellite) version at a more economi- cal cost, the company said. The viaFleet application displays the location of assets on a map in real time, tracks asset movements with breadcrumb reports and re- ports speeding events, dwell times, geofence access and asset health. Orbcomm also introduced the fol- lowing new products and services: • The OGi modem. With a foot- print smaller than a credit card, the small IDP modem targets mis- sion-critical applications that require low latency. • The Orbcomm Connect subscrib- er management portal for customers to control wireless services and con- nected devices.
