66 | Overdrive | July 2016 T he ChampTruck World Series truck racing circuit abruptly ended its 2016 season last month, and a new organization plans to pick up the pieces. ChampTruck's cancellation followed a dispute between racers and series management that led to more than half of the series' participants pulling out of future events. The season was scheduled to continue through October. ChampTruck was pursuing its second season despite losing three sponsors from last year. Director John Condren said ChampTruck is suspended "pending a reorgani- zation of the series." Organizers for the newly formed Bandit Big Rig Series say it will have diff erent locations and dates than ChampTruck's schedule. Brian Madsen, Bandit's direc- tor of operations, said nearly all of the ChampTruck teams have committed to joining the Bandit Series, along with four other teams that are building new race trucks for the series. Bandit's fi rst race is set for July 30 in Williamson, S.C., at the Anderson Motor Speedway. The race joins another series set to run the same weekend that features modifi ed pickup-style racers. Ad- mission ranges from $12 to $20. The rules governing the racetrucks will be similar to those used by ChampTruck. Any ChampTruck-legal racer also will be legal by Bandit rules, Madsen said. Competitors will have more freedom in the Bandit series to alter their equipment. Truck Frames 866-851-6478 Toll free: www.pgadams.com www.pgadams.com M A D E I N T H E U . S . A .
