VERSATILITY WINS OVER STRESS AND ANXIETY W hen I first saw the key topic for this month's issue of IT Magazine — "e New Normal: Rules and Regulations" — my first thought was to review some of the legislation currently in the news and simply share some thoughts on how some of the "New Rules" will affect your business. As I researched this topic it became obvious to me that for every new law passed there will be some operations that benefit from the changes and some that will get hurt. With every proposed rule your day-to-day operation alters. In some cases, just a little bit and in other cases the adjustments can be quite significant. While the topic for this month is Rules and Regulations, the list of issues facing everyone in the transportation industry can be exhausting, including things such as the pressure on rates, capacity, the economic outlook, foreign trade, highway infrastructure, labor issues, regional business cycles, severe weather events, technology advances and the list can go on. Owner operators, fleet owners and brokers alike have always had to navigate these types of twists in the road in addition to handling new rules and regulations. It seems like the only thing that remains normal is that nothing ever stays the same. While this isn't new, I'm confident in saying constant change is normal. Especially in our industry. I'll leave the deeper analysis of new regulations to other contributors more qualified, but I'd like to offer some observations about how some clients of ITS Dispatch who are successfully handling the changes. I posed the topic of "e New Normal" to our Training and Support partners several weeks ago and we've received some very insightful feedback from business owners and managers just like you.
