AGGREGATES MANAGER / October 2016 9 Motor grader boosts engine size, lowers fuel consumption The new Cat 14M3 Motor Grader builds on the design of predecessor models with improved machine balance, en- hanced transmission performance, advanced electro-hy- draulic steering, improved telematics, and added operator safety/convenience features. The Cat C13 Acert engine replaces the C11 engine in prior models and features an ECO mode that boosts fuel efficiency by limiting the engine's high-idle speed to 1,750 rpm in working gears, while maintaining power. Fuel savings are greatest when working at high idle in light to moderate applications. A scalable, integrated Cat Grade with Cross Slope system allows operators to maintain the desired cross slope by automatically controlling one side of the blade. Patented Stable Grade and Auto Ar- ticulation technologies improve operator performance. Stable Grade detects and reduces machine bounce during operation, while Auto Articulation improves maneuverability and performance in tight working spaces and enhances operator comfort. Caterpillar | www.cat.com High-production cone yields cubical product Terex Finlay says its new C-1540 direct-drive, tracked mobile cone crusher offers high output capacity with large reduction ratios and excellent cubical shape. The portable plant is built around the Terex 1000 cone crusher and can accept an all-in feed. It features direct variable speed clutch drive and "on the fly" hydraulic closed-side setting (CSS) adjustment. An overload protection system with automatic reset permits uncrushable material to pass through the crushing chamber and be discharged ef- ficiently. Its feed-in box is fitted with an ultrasonic level sensor calibrated to the feeder to ensure the chamber is consistently choke-fed for maximum throughput and minimum wear. The plant's standard 6.5-cubic-yard hopper/feeder is designed with a low feed-in height, so the machine can be fed directly by the primary crusher, an excavator, or a shovel. The hopper features a standard automated metal detec- tion and a purge system designed to protect the cone chamber and reduce downtime by removing metal contaminants via the purge chute.
