January 2017 | Overdrive | 41 Retired but not forgotten David Stahl has owned this 1991 Kenworth T600 since 1995 and officially retired it from the road in 2014 with more than 3 million miles on it. The truck is powered by a 500-hp Series 60 Detroit and a 13-speed Eaton-Fuller with 3:55 rears. After finishing his driv- ing career, Stahl opened a truck driving school, Northwest Trucking Academy in Tangent, Oregon, where he uses the T600 to train students. He also drives the truck during the National Anthem at the local race track on Saturday nights. Lost and found Jerry Whittmore owns this 1991 Peterbilt 379 extended hood and occasionally uses it to haul logs and wood chips for his family's log- ging business. The truck is powered by a 425-hp Cat and a 15-speed transmis- sion. Whittmore bought the truck new, then sold it, and more than 20 years later, his son, Jeron, found it. The Whittmores completely rebuilt the truck, which had 2.5 million miles on it when they bought it back. PDQ_OVD1215_PG.indd 1 11/18/15 10:17 AM
