12 www.specialized.net 800-866-5353 How to Choose the Proper Lugs Use the charts on these two pages to help you select the proper T&B lugs, taps and covers for your wire sizes and applications. First, do you need two-hole or one-hole connectors? Two-hole lugs are ideal for bus bar applications that require two bolts to prevent lug rotation while one-hole lugs are intended for standard use. Next, do you need long- or short-barrel lugs? Long-barrel connectors are designed for industrial applications and have a heavy-duty design that permits additional crimping for added mechanical strength. Short-barrel lugs are designed for regular-duty applications and are ideal for use in confined spaces. Finally, match the wire size column up with the short- or long-barrel stock number to order. H-taps and C-taps are designed for permanent pig tailing, two-way splicing or tapping to an unbroken continuous main. They require corresponding hard shell outer covers to guard against impact. An inner seal keeps out dust. They install quickly and easily without special tools. Just determine what wire size is being used for the main and the branch. Then order the corresponding tap and cover stock numbers. All of these lugs and taps are made for use with copper conductors. Using Thomas & Betts lugs and taps assures high conductivity, low resistance and high pullout values which exceed UL requirements. This method allows C.O. installation and maintenance personnel to make installations with little effort and at a considerable savings in time. It delivers a high-quality connection at a low installed cost. COLOR-KEYED ® connectors are made of high-conductivity wrought copper and are electro-tin plated to prevent corrosion and oxidation for improved conduc- tivity. These high-grade components offer the thickest tin-plating in the industry. T&B method connectors are available in a range of sizes and styles to accom- modate No. 14-AWG through 900-MCM copper cable. They may be compressed on cable with either manual or hydraulic tools. Select standard length or long barrels with one or two bolt holes. Two-hole lugs are ideal for bus bar applications that require two bolts to prevent lug rotation. The T&B method is the fastest, surest way yet developed for making compres- sion-type connections of high reliability and low electrical resistance. Once a T&B connector is compressed, it is permanent — putting an end to loose connections and their associated problems. Two-Hole Short- and Long-Barrel Lugs These copper barrel lugs are marked to show cable size, have color bands that cor- respond to color markings on prop er installing die and die code number marked for easy inspection.
