24 | Overdrive May 2017 Logbook A New York truck driver who rescued another trucker from rising floodwaters in the Houston area last April was named the 2016 Highway Angel of the Year by the Truckload Carriers Associa- tion and EpicVue. Daniel Sieczkarski of Rochester, a driver for Melton Truck Lines of Tulsa, Okla- homa, received the award at TCA's Annual Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. On April 18, 2016, Siec- zkarski was driving on Interstate 10 near Brookshire, Texas, when he saw a trac- tor-trailer parked sideways near a bridge. Floodwaters were rising around the truck, and the driver was still behind the wheel. Sieczkarski put on a life vest, swam to the truck and, with the help of other motorists, was able to get the stranded driver to dry land. Sieczkarski received a trophy and a prize package from EpicVue that included a 24-inch flatscreen TV, a DVR and a one-year subscription to over 100 channels of Di- recTV programming. – Overdrive Staff Weigh To Win rules.
