May 2017 | Overdrive | 49 Custom Rigs Sellout crowds turn out for first two Bandit Series races T he Bandit Big Rig Series has been a hit with fans through two races. Sellout crowds at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina and Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina witnessed the kickoff to the series' inaugural season. More than 8,000 fans turned out March 26 for the inaugural Bandit Series race in Newton, North Caro- lina, to watch Robbie Decker take the checkered flag. Ball and Boileau charged hard as the race came to a close. "You almost hit a point where you can't breathe those last few laps," Decker said. "But I was able to hold them off." On April 15, more than 6,000 fans saw Ricky "Rude" Proffitt win in Easley, South Carolina. "I'm not used to losing," said Prof- fitt, who finished eighth in the first race. The next races are: • May 20, Florence Motor Speed- way in Timmonsville, South Carolina. • June 10, Greenville-Pickens Speed- way in Easley, South Carolina.
