CoxHealth has about 175 paramedics and emergency medical technicians on staff. The ambulances are fuel more than fuel costs. You hear and see CoxHealth's 51 ambulances throughout southwest Missouri. This fleet of vehicles covers seven counties around the clock, responding to more than 36,000 calls a year. CoxHealth recently purchased two new ambulances, providing an even safer environment for patients and crew members. efficient and expected to save $5,000 a year each in "A safety seat in these ambulances allows crew members to remain seated and restrained in the back of the ambulance with a four-point harness," says Mark Alexander, director of Prehospital Services. "The seat can slide across the length of the ambulance, as well as swivel. This provides safe access to the patient, life-saving equipment and medications." In every CoxHealth ambulance call there are two crew members – a licensed paramedic and an emergency medical technician – who are in constant communication with the hospital. The crew members assess the patient's condition, perform emergency medical procedures, if necessary, and transport patients to the hospital safely. The new ambulances are more fuel efficient than the older models and cost less to maintain. Alexander says we will gradually see more of these new CoxHealth ambulances on the road.
