mazing what a knee replacement with her husband, Allan. Prior to surgery she and her husband, Allan, attended the Joint Adventures program. During the program, Susan took a virtual tour of the Meyer Orthopedic Hospital, including the operating room, a patient room and the physical therapy area. She also received a manual with exercises to do prior to her surgery. "Patients are more at ease when they can anticipate what is going to occur," says Debbie Harris, director of therapy at Meyer Orthopedic Hospital. "The program was so organized. They explained everything that was going to happen," says Susan. During surgery, Dr. Duncan removed the damaged part of her knee and inserted an artificial joint. Susan spent the next three days in a private room and began twice-a-day physical therapy. "I recommend physical therapy as soon as possible after surgery to strengthen the muscles surrounding the knee," says Dr. Duncan. Once at home Susan continued her physical therapy exercises with help and encouragement from her husband. "The care I received at Meyer Orthopedic Hospital was outstanding. I am so fortunate I went there to have my surgery," says Susan. She says the surgery changed her life in that she doesn't wake up with knee pain in the middle of the night, she is able to go up and down stairs with ease and she is back in her game.
