on record | by Marcia Gruver Doyle MGruver@randallreilly.com August reboot I would say the following is a shameless plug, but the real shame would be to miss out on the chance to hear a slate of top speakers delve into your critical industry issues. Plus, our Construction Symposium, slated for August 20-22 at the Dallas Omni Hotel, will give you the opportunity to network with contractors from outside of your locale … and take a welcome summer break. Here's what's on tap: What are the real fuels of the future? Keynote speaker Robert Bryce, author of Power Hungry: The Myths of "Green" Energy and the Real Fuels of the Future, will address how we can get away from wishful thinking and truly transform the global energy sector through sound decisions and smart investments. CSA: The new next step If you think the federal Compliance Safety Accountability safety initiative is only for big trucking fleets, this session will be an eye opener. Jeff Davis with Fleet Safety Services will detail the inter-workings of a CSA Intervention and how smaller fleets can best prepare for one. He'll explore real-life examples, and examine how an adverse CSA Intervention can impact a non-trucking company. Getting the most out of your equipment appraisal 30-year equipment appraiser Brett Hoffman contends real money may be at stake if contractors don't carefully manage their equipment appraisals. He will present the case for a hands-on approach, including hiring a credible appraiser. Is ethanol contaminating your fuel tanks? Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel was introduced in 2007, and soon afterwards, diesel storage tanks and dispensing system started showing corrosion problems. Howard Chesneau with Fuel Quality Services will present his theory as to why this is happening and give tips on how to you can counter this from happening to your fuel system. Why your next pickup may run on propane Michael Taylor, director of autogas business development for the Propane Education & Research Council, will examine the propane pickup alternative and how you can determine your real ROI. The scoop on OSHA's coming truck crane certification As Executive Editor Tom Jackson outlined in our June issue, OSHA has its sights on making sure your crew can safely operate a service truck crane. A representative from the National Commission for Certification of Crane Operators will review what they see ahead, and how you can best prepare. This jam-packed meeting is topped off by a Texas Rangers v. Houston Astros game, and VIP admittance to two shows – the ProPickup Truck Expo and the Great American Trucking Show. Intrigued? Book your registration by going to theconstructionsymposium.com. You'll come back with information you can immediately put to use.
