Lawrence University Lawrence University—home to a world-class liberal arts college and conservatory of music, both devoted exclusively to undergraduate education—believes that college should not be a one-size-fits-all experience. Like most private colleges, Lawrence offers a low student-to-faculty ratio (9:1) and average class size (15). Lawrence teaches an extraordinary number of individualized courses—honors projects, tutorials, studio lessons—with one student working under the guidance of one professor. Of the 2,000 courses Lawrence teaches each year, nearly two-thirds have a total enrollment of one. By the time they graduate, 90% of our students will have at least one individualized class. That's the power of individualized learning. Enrollment: 1,450 Student/faculty ratio: 9:1 Admission requirements: At least 20 academic units of study in high school. For admission to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, a completed Common Application, high school transcript, and application fee; for admission to the Conservatory of Music, all of the above, plus an audition and supplemental music forms. Lawrence does not require the ACT or SAT for admission or scholarship; students may submit scores if they wish. How AP/IB credits are handled: Lawrence awards credits for AP exam scores of 4 or 5. Lawrence awards substantial credit to students who have score a 5 or higher on all examinations in the course of achieving an IB diploma. Students who score below 5 on any examination, but who complete the IB diploma, may receive whole or partial course credit for each grade of 5 or higher on higher- or subsidiary-level exams. Students who complete an individual course in the IB program, but who are not diploma candidates, will receive credit for each grade of 5 or higher on higher-level exams. (Credit awarded only for those IB courses for which Lawrence offer a similar course.) Division III.
