Kelley's cool running During the most recent show, several manufacturers, working jointly as members of the Wireless Power Consortium, rolled out products compatible with the "Qi" standard for wireless charging. Qi (pronounced "chee") is the only wireless power of Qi disappearing, or a competitive standard emerging. The current list of participants in the Wireless Power Consortium reads like the "Who's Who" of the consumer electronics world, including Verizon, Motorola, Nokia, Philips, Toshiba, Sony, Energizer, HTC, A typical example of Qi charging in a mobile setting is shown here. The charger is built into the storage console and charging is accomplished by simply placing the phone in the CHANGING LANES solution fully integrated into smartphones, without the need for cases or replaceable battery covers. All that's necessary is to place a Qienabled device on a Qi charging surface and it charges the device, with no cords to connect. Developed by the Wireless Power Consortium, Qi guarantees that any phone, camera, remote control, or other device carrying the Qi logo will work with any charging surface that carries the Qi logo, regardless of manufacturer or brand. With more than 10 million Qicompatible devices already in use, and over 100 Qi-certiļ¬ed products currently available for sale, there's little danger 10 kelleys cool runnings 0813 cl.indd 2 LG, Panasonic, and Visteon, just to name a few. To support older mobile devices not yet ready for replacement, there are an increasing number of options for adding Qi compatibility to existing devices. Several protective cases, sleeves, and removable battery covers are available to use with an existing device, enabling charging the same manner as a device with Qi built-in. Although the long-term goal for mobile use is to have Qi chargers built into vehicles from the factory, there are already many simple options for equipping an existing vehicle with Qi charging capability.
