Custom Rigs Reader Rigs By Tara Bullock Continues to improve Ken Zeran, an owner-operator leased to STI, thought he wanted a new truck, but soon found that newer isn't always better. Zeran, of Ontario, Canada, traded in the newer model for his 1994 Kenworth W900L and says his fuel mileage continues to improve with the rig, which is powered by a 425-hp engine and a 15-speed transmission. Zeran designed and painted the custom coat with his favorite colors, red and black. Striped drive When owner-operator Hughes Morin purchased his 2006 379 Peterbilt, the truck was solid red, so he created a silver and red striped paint scheme to make the truck his own. Morin, of Clinton, Ark., says that the truck – powered by a 10-speed transmission – has been reliable over the past six years. 40 | Overdrive | December 2013 ReaderRigs_1213.indd 40 11/27/13 12:05 PM
