The Evelyn Bay is the proud sponsor of Operation Cuppa Joe, which donates $4 from every pound purchased to re-purchase, donate and distribute specialty grade coffees for U.S. troops serving stateside and overseas, and also helps equip small coffee growers with bicycles! Like GMCR and Dillanos, DeCoty also tries to do its part for the planet. Environmental initiatives include a major recycling program in San Angelo, where all coffee roasting is concentrated. In addition, says Baker, “We try to buy Fair Trade coffees when they meet our standards and when we can get them. We also distribute DaVinci sauces and syrups, and they have a money-back program for growers. All of this helps contribute to sustainability of resources.” THE EVELYN BAY COMPANY PROVIDES BICYCLES FOR BEAN GROWERS “Create something good and share it with everyone.” True to that mission, Evelyn Bay Coffee Company, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Brooklyn, Mich., helps equip small coffee growers with bicycle transportation, eliminating physically demanding day-to-day tasks and improving access to water. “Tis is part of our effort, from seed to cup, to promote social responsibility by working with sustainably farmed specialty coffees,” says Tia Hoffman, president and owner. Hoffman says that her firm purchases coffee directly from small family farms and cooperatives in districts like Meru, a growing region in the Eastern Province of Kenya. Working with the Mbegu Tamu Coffee Company LLC, she adds, “We encourage the families of the Meru to maintain a high quality of crop, which strengthens their economic stability.” By buying “only the world’s finest green coffee beans” and “roasting in small batches,” Evelyn Bay “takes each coffee to its fullest flavor potential.” Te company’s web site (ww.evelynbaycoffee.com) describes the firm as “a complete micro-roaster, never roasting more than 20 pounds of coffee at a time.” According to Hoffman, this enables Evelyn Bay to purchase in small quantities, hold very little inventory and “ensure the freshest possible product at the best value.” Te site also tempts visitors with the prospect of becoming coffeehouse owners. “You can join the growing Evelyn Bay family and live the life of an independent business person in one of the most pleasant and growing businesses in the country,” it says. Private label brands are a key element of the program, including a line of famous Nuge Java signature coffees craſted for rock legend and outdoorsman Ted Nugent. Tere is also a “Ted Nugent Kamp for Kids” brand, with proceeds going to the charity children’s camps. Other options include “Oh Tese Irish Hill Coffees,” celebrating the Irish Hills region of Michigan, and a “Big Buck Blend,” marketed specifically to the Jerome Market in Jerome, Mich. Te Evelyn Bay is the proud sponsor of Operation Cuppa Joe, which donates $4 from every pound purchased to re- purchase, donate and distribute specialty grade coffees for U.S. troops serving stateside and overseas. “Our roastery is a veteran owned and operated coffee roasting company who proudly supports the duty and sacrifice of those who have chosen to serve our great country,” company information says. Hoffman adds that, in addition to providing high quality and good value, Evelyn Bay also honors the environment by working with all-natural materials and using recycled paper products.
