Chauvin Coffee Company mourns founder Joe Charleville passes away at age 97 Specialty Coffee Retailer extends condolences to the family, friends and business associates of Joe Charleville, who passed away March 17. Joe—the second of four generations of coffee roasters—started in the coffee business in 1930 as a high school student when he went to work for Isaac Rose at Rose Coffee Company in St. Louis, Mo. He rose through the company’s ranks, bought out his step-brother’s interest, and in 1962, after the death of Isaac Rose, became the sole proprietor. In 1978 Joe sold Rose Coffee Co., but coffee remained in his life. In 1984, he opened Chauvin Coffee Co. in St. Louis, which his daughter-in-law Bonnie Charleville owns and operates today. Caribou Coffee unveils winning expressions Guests’ phrases to be featured on company’s coffee cups Caribou Coffee recently unveiled coffee cups featuring the winning phrases from the company’s “Make the Cup” contest, which asked customers to submit phrases and images of what inspires them. The company announced the winners in February. “Caribou Coffee is a brand that embraces living life to the fullest, regardless of what it is that you are passionate about. We want to give our consumers a chance to share that passion and be part of the conversation,” Alfredo Martel, senior vice president of marketing and product management for Caribou Coffee, said. “Life is short. Stay awake for it,” has been Caribou’s tag line since its inception in 1992. National Coffee Association releases trend survey “The Impact of Age, Gender & Ethnicity on Consumer Behaviors & Attitudes” examines motivations that drive coffee- drinking habits In today’s competitive marketplace, it is more important than ever to tailor product positioning and branding to satisfy diverse needs. Consequently, understanding the demographic variations in consumers’ attitudes and behaviors that drive coffee sales is essential to developing successful marketing plans and building brand loyalties for important niche markets. The National Coffee Association (NCA) is helping specialty coffee retailers and manufacturers understand customers’ habits in “Portrait of the Coffee Consumer: The Impact of Age, Gender & Ethnicity on Consumer Behaviors & Attitudes,” a supplemental report to the 2010 National Coffee Drinking Trends survey.
