42 • JUNE 2014 • WORLD FENCE NEWS NAFCA completes latest stage of patriotic fence replacement project at Arlington National Cemetery Members of the North American Fence Contractors Association (NAFCA) recently completed the lat- est stage in their ongoing renovation of fencing at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. This marked the fourth year that the volunteer group performed much- needed replacement of fencing at the Cemetery. Some 35 NAFCA contrac- tors and vendors from across the coun- try were involved, hailing from Virginia, Georgia, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan and Maryland. Crews removed about 360 lineal feet of old 4-foot chain link and re- placed it with black commercial grade aluminum fence donated by Ultra Alu- minum Mfg., Inc. The project was covered by local television and newspapers. Scott Ruete, Frederick Fence Co. residential sales manager and president of NAFCA, was quoted in the Frederick News-Post: "Everybody has been ex- tremely impressed with what we're doing," he said. "It's a big charity job we do every year for the cemetery. Ar- lington has enough old fence that needs to be replaced to keep us busy over the next 10 years." Ruete and four other Frederick Fence Co. employees assisted on the project. "We spent a lot of time on the de- sign and layout," he said. "I have fam- ily members buried at Arlington, so it's kind of personal to me. Visitors to the cemetery leave with renewed ap- preciation for the men and women in the armed forces," Ruete said. "It is a pleasure and honor to come here and do this work," he said. "I'm a retired Coast Guard veteran and my son is in the Army, so this is personal for us." Involved in the project were the following individuals: Ben Jodoin, Ultra Aluminum Mfg. Inc.; Dustin Chapman, Ultra Alu- minum Mfg. Inc.; Chris Chapman, Chapman Fence Co.; Ron and Angela Willis, Willis Fence; Scott Ruete, Frederick Fence Co.; Mark Brengle, Frederick Fence Co.; Andrew Dewese, Frederick Fence Co.; Todd Powers, Frederick Fence Co.; Mike, Michelle, Cody and Tyler Jacob, Modern Fence; Aaron and Zach Smith, A to Z Quality Fencing; Jim McMahon, Dandy Dig- ger & Supply; Bill and Judy Iams, Log Cabin Fence Co.; Jim and Mary Iams, Log Cabin Fence Co.; Don and Debbie Roche, Roche Fence; Ivan King, New Holland Chain Link LLC; Mark and Marge Knudson, Modern Fence Technologies; Pat Sadler, CertainTeed; Shane Ward, Centaur Fence Systems; Howard and Tonnie Wullschleger, Midland Fence Co.; Dave Harris, East Coast Industrial Supply; Dennis Pekoff, Natural Beauty & Ultimate Fence; and Gerry Patriotic NAFCA volunteers proudly pose beside their handiwork at Arlington National Cemetery.
