CULTURED 151 As the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Daniel Brodsky Associate Curator, Beatrice Galilee has an exciting task ahead of her: to lead a new architecture and design department in one of the world's premier artistic institutions. With a long list of credentials in tow, the London native decamped to New York to take on her new position in the spring. Her penchant for unconventional programming—she co-cu- rated "Afrofuture," a show of tech-based and sci-fi African design at last year's Salone del Mobile and the 2011 Gwangju Design Biennale under the direction of Ai Weiwei and Seung H-Sang, critically ac- claimed for its focus on cultural issues in urbanism—as well as her editorial contributions to Domus, Abitare, Architect's Journal and Icon bodes well for her stateside debut. BEATRICE GALILEE Museum Curator "In architecture young is never really that young, but I am following the work of the architecture studio June14 Meyer-Grohbrügge&Chermayeff and the designer Nelly Ben Hayoun." "I wish I had kept some of the works that were made during "Hacked Lab," the technology-focused exhibition in Milan in 2012. Most of them were made for performances so they weren't designed to be kept, but I would have loved to capture Dominic Wilcox's (at right) beautiful model of the Duomo cathedral and Formafan- tasma's live demonstration of their Botanica series. It was all so much fun at the time, I didn't think about keeping some of it for posterity!" "I loved reading Alice Rawsthorn's 'Hello World: Where Design Meets Life'."
