INSIDE GOLF 51 "Just one more time!" It's a place that feels like you've actu- ally had a special experience, when cookie-cutter golf courses and adequate experiences are becoming common. The Challenge was nothing but special, from watching whales breach on the ferry ride to filling up my camera with pictures. Golf seemed to get in the way at times. How many holes can be the sig- nature hole? I counted seven at the Challenge. Even the tuna salad wrap felt special. Maybe it wasn't, but the perception of me having a special experience, something more than the average outing, made it taste so good. Choosing a course to play when on vacation should be done with purpose. Maybe con- venience is the priority, or pos- sibly playing where history has been made. Or maybe it's about getting off the beaten path and sharing a memory, versus get- ting a round in. Royal Ka'anapali has history, great location and spectacular vistas, all of which will leave you wonderfully satisfied. The Challenge will require you to do some work and put some effort in. But it will leave you stuffed in a way that will have you filling your photo album with picture after picture. It's golf-gorging in the sense of experience.
