Holiday Activity Guide Live theatre blooms during holidays PLAN NOWto attend Milwaukee's can't miss holiday theater offerings. For the 36th year, the Milwaukee Repertory Theater (The Rep) sends its company next door into the elegant Pabst Theater for Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Originally constructed in 1890, only 20 years after the death of Dickens, the theater on its own reminds patrons of hol- idays past. As it always does, The Rep adapts A Christmas Carolwithout diluting the mes- sage of goodwill. It opens Dec. 2, runs through Dec. 24, and should not be missed. Through Nov. 20, the Rep's Quadracci main stage tells the tale of a legend of the gridiron with Lombardi. (Due to popular demand, the play has been extended.) Then, Dec. 6-Jan. 15, that stage is home for Next to Normal, the groundbreaking and award-winning musical that explores how one suburban family copes with crisis. With powerful lyrics and an electrifying pop-rock score of more than 30 songs, this intense, ulti- mately hopeful musical aims right for the heart. Nov. 23-Dec. 18, In the Historic Third Ward, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre presents Heroes, fol- lowing a trio of cantankerous World War I veter- ans who dream up a plan to escape from a remote French hospital. Hilarity reigns Nov. 16-Dec. 31 in Vogel Hall at the Marcus Performing Arts Center, with Milwaukee's favorite comedian (and favorite son), John McGivern. Enter the colorful world of 30 cable access TV hostess Earlene Hoople, the self- proclaimed "Queen of Rural Media," as she tapes her last Christmas Special in front of a live audi- ence. A Kodachrome Christmas will bring back memories and help create new ones. (Intricately decorated Christmas sweaters recommended but not required.) Ticket information on these and other produc- tions available during the holiday season can be found in KEY Milwaukee's Arts & Entertainment listings in the magazine and online at www.KeyMilwaukee.com
