Development of the Vaterra 1100 began in 2011 with a six-person R&D team focused exclusively on creating an 1100cc UTV. The vehicle's features and functions were devel- oped in response to market trends, prog- ress-based tests and customer feedback, the company reports. The Vaterra's 1100cc engine produces 71.5 hp and 67 pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm. The Vaterra, which is available in both four-seater and two-seater models, fea- tures a rear-wheel driveshaft, switchable to 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive with a dif- ferential lock. The automatic CVT features reverse, neutral, low and high gears with a reverse override. The Vaterra 1100 also features: Liquid twin-fan cooling system DOHC 16 valves Electronic fuel-injected I4 engine Electronic e-brake Bench seat 4-seater SXS Hydraulic assist bed with mounted rails on both sides Protective overfenders Alloy wheels Half doors Plastic canopy 3,000-lb. winch 3,500-lb. hitch ball Power steering Sealed under-seat storage The Vaterra can handle tough trails and heavy loads — and give the police an assist. XY recently outfitted a four-seater Vaterra 1100 for the Loveland Police Division in Loveland, Ohio, to patrol the very popular local bike trail and to use at community events like parades and high school football games. The custom- built police UTV included special fabrication and customized wiring for the lights and sirens. Except for the engine, the manufacturer builds everything on the Vaterra unit including the gearbox, front and rear differentials and mold. The manufacturer produces 500–600 Vaterras per month. Worcester, Mass.-based Curtis Industries has unveiled its new cab system for the Yamaha Viking. The Curtis cab features rugged, all- steel panels. The doors are powder-coated 16-gauge steel for structural strength. Large windows with dual slid- ers provide excellent ventilation, plus the exclusive Curtis Quick-Release Latch allows the window panel to be removed in sec- onds without tools by simply turning four thumbscrews, perfect for open-air driving. The doors have additional features including heavy-duty 7-gauge steel hinges to reduce door flex and sag. Doors include gas shocks to assist opening and closing and to provide additional control when opening doors in windy conditions. The venting windshield is made of scratch-resistant polycarbonate. The rear window is made of impact-modified acrylic and is contoured for excellent visibility; the venting slider in the rear window allows flow through ventilation. The cab uses the existing factory roof that comes standard on most models; the cab includes added rubber sealing for better weather protection. Dual windshield wipers are standard, providing three-passenger visibility in any weather. Optional 2-speed under-dash heater and work lights are available. STI EXPANDS OUTBACK TIRE LINE The STI Outback lineup now offers even more choices for owners of UTVs and ATVs. The new Outback XLT tires add four new sizes, including 30/9-14, 30/11-14, 30/9-17 and 30/11-17. The taller tire profile, offered to fit 14- and 17-inch wheels, makes these tires ideal for today's big-bore UTVs. The new Outback XLT tires feature the familiar Outback lugs that are stepped on the outside and dimpled in the middle. The lugs on the XLT tires measure 1.25 inches deep for even better traction in loose conditions. All Outback tires use a 6-ply bias carcass and a beefy rim guard for durability with- out adding weight. The tread design provides strong grip and efficient cleanout capability, and the center "V" tread pattern gives a comfortable ride on hard surfaces. Launched in 2013, the Outback tire line also includes the Outback XT tires, which feature 1.125-inch deep lugs and are available in 26- to 28-inch sizes, plus the original Outback AT tires with their 3/4- inch deep lugs and 25-inch sizing. With the new taller XLT tires expanding the Outback lineup, STI continues to deliver a broad range of tire and wheel options to satisfy the needs of ATV and UTV owners everywhere. Suggested retail prices for the Outback XLT tires range from $165 to $215. WPS ADDS TO ATV/UTV CATALOG WPS has added HiPer Technology wheels to its ATV/UTV catalog. HiPer wheels are available in single beadlock or dual beadlock versions. The 14-inch diameter wheel weighs less than most available wheels, which allows for improved acceleration and braking with- out the power-draining weight increases of traditional 14-inch aluminum wheels. HiPer Fusion wheels come with a precision- machined 6061 billet center to give it the added strength, while the Sidewinder comes with a cast center.
