GIE+EXPO 2011 RECAP manager. "This means the engine can fine-tune the amount of fuel in- jected into the engine, resulting in up to 25-percent fuel savings in real- world use." The 27-hp. engine includes an exclusive Tuff Torq integrated transmis- sion. Standard across the ZTrak PRO 900 Series, the transmission features 13-cc piston-style pumps and 13-cc wheel motors for increased effi- ciency. Another series exclusive is the cross-porting system that routes the coolest hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic pump doing the most work. The Z925 EFI offers a 54- or 60-inch, 7-Iron PRO mowing deck. The decks are stamped from 7-gauge steel for maximum durability and enhanced mowing performance. The 54-inch deck also includes exclusive Mulch-On-Demand technology that allows the operator to switch be- tween mulching and side discharging without ever leaving the seat. For durability, the Z925 EFI, and the entire Z900 Series, provides a C-Channel frame, and cast-iron rear bumpers and front forks. Internal wet disk brakes allow for superior braking. Two other convenient features include the Height-of-Cut Adjustment system, and the Brake & Go starting system. The Height-of-Cut Adjust- ment system allows the operator to adjust the mower deck height with- out ever leaving the seat. With the Brake & Go starting system, the operator only needs to set the parking brake and turn the key to start the mower. "The John Deere Z900 Series provides the power and performance that landscape contractors expect," said Palmer. "And now with the John Deere Z925 EFI, they can get the fuel savings they need." Kawasaki Engines now SAE certified Following the August 2011 unveiling of a new engine ratings proce- dure instituted by Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. Engine and Power Products Division, the company announced at GIE+EXPO that the "Critical Power" ratings approach has been awarded SAE International certification. "SAE International's formal ac- Kawasaki's FS730V engine knowledgment means that Kawasaki has met the required standards to use the SAE International reference in its advertising and promotional materials for specified engines," said Gary Pollak, program manager, ground vehicle standards, SAE Inter- national. "The certification entailed a battery of engine tests operated and witnessed by independent, experi- enced engineers familiar with the requirements of SAE J1995." SAE J1995 Gross Power testing is part of the procedure for Kawasaki's engines to be rated in accordance with the stringent SAE J2723. This tighter, more exacting standard is an automotive industry reference and is being applied in this industry for the first time. It assures purchasers of Kawasaki-powered lawn care and other maintenance equipment that most production engines will be no less than 98 percent of their rated values, not the 15-percent potential variable permitted under SAE J1940, the generally applied industry standard. Kawasaki executives are in agreement that the very strict SAE J2723 standard is better suited to accommodate the company's advanced engine and manufacturing technologies. The company's leadership position in this area underscores the belief that end users of original equipment products fitted with engines from various manufacturers have suffered from uncertainty and confusion when comparing and making purchase decisions based on claimed horse- power ratings. 20 OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT www.outdoorpowerequipment.com
