The new certification ensures that Acoustifence can be easily enclosed in other fencing %% the powder-coated finish on Ultra's aluminum fences, railing and gates performs significantly better in areas such as adhesion, salt spray and hu- midity resistance, and color/gloss re- tention, the company said. AAMA 2604 is a voluntary speci- fication that covers factory-applied or- ganic spray coatings. The classification is designed to assist the architect, owner and con- tractor in specifying coatings which will provide and maintain a high level of performance in terms of film in- tegrity, exterior weatherability and general appearance over a period of many years. Among the general spec- ifications for this certification are the quality of the coating's visual appear- ance (no streaks, flow lines, blisters or surface imperfections visible at a set distance) and the thickness of the film (or coating). More specifically, the coating is subject to a series of tests to establish the uniformity of the color, the gloss value, the hardness of the dry film (or coating), the film adhesion, impact re- sistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and weathering. The American Architectural Man- ufacturers Association is a source of finish performance standards, product certification and educational programs for the architectural manufacturing in- dustry. Testing performed by AAMA in- cludes color uniformity, abrasion re- sistance, chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and weather re- sistance, specifically south Florida ex- posure. In order to earn AAMA certifica- tion for their products, manufacturers must agree not only to submit products to independent testing, but also to unannounced in-plant inspections of their production lines in order to prove that the product being tested in the lab is the same as the product coming out of the factory.
