According to the Chicago Botanic Garden, "With growing awareness of the impact of climate change, many gardeners are reconsidering the important roles that native plants can play in home landscapes." Yes, native plants are reasonably priced and lower maintenance, but, more importantly, they require fewer chemicals to thrive, and can help with our carbon footprints. Mariani Landscape, a landscape architecture fi rm based in Chicago's North Shore, already employs native and "Midwestern" plants in projects as one of the company's many sustainability practices. The team at Mariani is deeply committed to the environment and sources locally grown materials whenever possible.
