live in good health Th eFountain Be a savvy sunscreen shopper While we all know about the importance of protecting skin from the sun's rays, not all sunscreens are made equally. One of the ways to fi nd a quality sunscreen? Shop for the right ingredients. Gener- ally, sunscreens fall into two categories: chemical and physical. If using a chemical sunscreen, which works by absorbing the sun's rays, look for an ingredient called octinoxate. In physical sunscreens, which work by blocking the sun's rays, look for zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Read your sunblock's label to ensure at least fi ve per- cent zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, or a combination of both that is at least at 10 percent. Reach for tried-and-true products to fi ght aging "Th ere's still nothing better for aging skin than Retin-A," says Parfi tt. Known also by its generic name, tretinoin cream, Retin- A works to stimulate the turnover of skin cells, which slows down as we age. While Retin-A can be found in some over the counter creams and gels, it's a product best used under the care of a physician who can ensure that the dosage is managed and side effects, including fl aking and redness that will diminish as new skin cells develop, can be minimized. Parfi tt cautions that Retin-A increases skin's sensitivity to the sun, and recommends starting this type of treatment in fall or winter. Find the best solutions for younger, fresher skin with tips from Dr. Richard Parfi tt, facial plastic surgeon and medical director of AestheticA Skin Health Center ofYouth Don't overdo the moisturizer Th e old regimen of applying your moistur- izer twice daily (or more!) no longer holds true. "You don't want to overdo moistur- izers because your skin becomes lazy. Th en you need moisturizers to keep it from dry- ing out too easily," Parfi tt explains. "I sug- gest using them sparingly, only when you just need your skin to look its very best." Th e difference? While moisturizer helps your skin feel and look more youthful, it doesn't actually help your skin rebuild in a healthy way like it does with Retin-A. If you do use a moisturizer, Parfi tt suggests looking for an ingredient called kinetin, an antioxidant moisturizer most often found in Kinerase brand products. • Reverse wrinkles, saggy skin & frown lines • Remove age spots, spider veins & redness • Treat acne, acne scars & rosacea Using state-of-the-art laser/light therapy and natural injectable treatments, you'll see brighter, fresher skin with minimal to no downtime!
