36 February 2017 www.thunderpress.net THUNDER PRESS by SuperGlide Gail GLENDALE, CALIF., DEC. 11— Despite the decline of MMA's mon- umental toy runs from decades past, the Glendale Harley-Davidson Toy Run has maintained its premiere sta- tus under the able guidance of 14-year coordinator Richard Wagner, along with LA's most supportive motorcy- cle organizations and the coopera- tion of the Glendale Police and Fire Departments with Mary Velaquez from Glendale City Hall. After a pancake breakfast and pho- tos with Ugly MC's Mr. Parts as Santa, toys that had been collected through- out the holiday season were packed up and escorted by GHD owner Oliver Shokouh and Grand Marshall Robert Patrick (along with Boozefi ghters MC) followed by nearly 500 of Santa's helpers atop festooned bikes, laden with more toys. Kudos to Golden State H.O.G. and Messengers of Recovery MC for their excellent parking and traffi c control, and GHD's webmaster Jessie for the publicity. After a short fi ve-mile jaunt under leather-weather skies, the procession arrived at the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House (a program of RMH Charities of Southern California). The roar of hundreds of bikes rolling up to the House thrilled and delighted the families. Everyone enjoyed eating cookies baked by BCBG volunteers and watching the children choose toys (also to be shared with the Pasadena RMH). An even bigger surprise was the personal appearance of Ronald McDonald himself, with everyone awaiting their turn for a photo with him! True competition for Santa. Since opening in 1980, the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House has provided comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California, creating a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, courage and joy. They are also one of very few Ronald McDonald House Charities chapters across the world that operates a cost- free, medically-supervised camp for children with cancer and their fam- ilies: Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. The toy run allowed the children and their families to enjoy a unique event beyond their immediate health concerns. RMH Events Director Melissa Malone—after witnessing the generous support of SoCal bikers— would welcome us all back next year. 4 29TH ANNUAL LA TOY RUN BENEFITING RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE A lot of years, a lot of love And Ronald is in the house (L.–r.)
