October is a special month in Milwaukee County. Our parks, backyards, and even our Downtown gain the fiery accents of fall color, inviting tourists and residents to step out and enjoy the autumn weather. In Downtown Milwaukee, Fall Gallery Night & Day offers an intimate glimpse inside the local art community. At the Milwaukee County Zoo, the cooler weather brings many animals out and touch- es stunning color to the beautiful grounds. Milwaukee is as glad to share its history with visitors. The Harley Davidson Museum, Miller Brewery, Pabst Mansion and Historic Milwaukee tours offer a guided glimpse of the city's heritage of beer, bikes, and more. October even sees changes in the diverse cuisine of the area. Area farms overflow with autumn's bounty and local microbreweries' pumpkin and Octoberfest beers fill the taps. That is part of a change in housing patterns that has brought more and more people to downtown Milwaukee. Visitors to Milwaukee are finding a wider variety of options as new restaurants, new hotels, and new attractions are added. Our industries have evolved over the years. While we still brew beer in Milwaukee, we are now home to high- ly advanced manufacturing, businesses producing green energy components and a burgeoning water technology sector. The demographic makeup of Milwaukee has changed as members of different immigrant groups have chosen to make this city their home.
