With ratings up to 1,850 lb.-ft. of torque, Endurant will be matched with the Cummins X15 Efficiency Series engines rated up to 510 hp for Peterbilt's 567 and 579 models and Kenworth's T680 tractor. Peterbilt and Kenworth also will offer an Endurant variant for Paccar MX engines. Endurant features an internal electrical system routing that helps minimize expo- sure and corrosion to wires and connec- tors. A prognostics feature provides clutch replacement notification to better plan maintenance scheduling. A transmission fluid pressure sensor notifies drivers of low oil levels to provide burn-up coverage. Plans for Navistar-Volkswagen deal IN BRIEF DANA'S SPL 250 LITE driveshaft is designed to handle heavy-duty truck torque ratings of more than 18,000 lb.-ft. The SPL 250 accommodates the lower axle ratios required to sup- port engine downspeeding that can cause stress to the drivetrain and alter harmon- ics in driveline components. THE BENDIX INTELLIPARK system electronically engag- es truck and trailer parking brakes if a driver forgets to do so and exits the vehicle. Intellipark works through sensors installed in critical areas, such as the seat and cab door. The system also replaces push-and-pull brake buttons with more ergo- nomic switches. ACCURIDE'S ROLLIANT HUB system is designed for extended life and perfor- mance. Rolliant features a patent-pending technology that better maintains proper bearing adjustment for tight, consistent alignment and im- proved hub component life. Top executives at Navistar and Volkswagen announced plans for a proprietary integrated powertrain for the North American market, as well as projects related to connected vehicles. The powertrains will launch in International heavy-duty products as early as 2021. Navistar also plans to develop a big-bore 15-liter engine in conjunction with Volkswagen for use in International Trucks. Navistar also announced it will con- verge its connected vehicle technologies, including OnCommand Connection, with Volkswagen's global connected vehicle platform, beginning with a com- mon in-cab hardware device. The two companies entered into a partnership last year, with Volkswagen buying a 16 percent stake in Navistar. Troy Clarke, Navistar chairman, president and chief execu- tive officer, said the alliance will allow his company to introduce a 15-liter heavy-duty engine by 2021. Volkswagen "allowed us to be a part of the next generation of engine development," Clarke said. "This is an engine being developed from scratch that will serve all the alliance partners." Freightliner is adding a mid-roof cab con- figuration for its Cascadia, including 48-, 60- and 72-inch XT sleeper cabs in both 116- and 126-inch BBCs. All three config- urations offer a choice of Aero or AeroX aerodynamic packages. Customers can place orders now for delivery in January. All-LED interior and exterior lights also are available, as is an ergonomic dash- board and display screen. Detroit Connect and Detroit Assurance 4.0 are integrated. Freightliner also has partnered with Hendrickson to offer the Optimaax 6×2 lift- able forward tandem axle on the Cascadia.
