Holiday Lights Festival kicks off downtown Nov. 15 DOWNTOWN MILWAUKEE is set to sparkle Nov. 15-Dec. 31 as part of the 14th Annual Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival. The six-week festival features hundreds of events, dozens of light displays and a convenient Jingle Bus tour that connects visitors to all the sights. The festival begins with its switch-flipping ceremo- ny, the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival Kick- Off Extravaganza, on Thursday, Nov. 15, in Pere Marquette Park. Festivities include a holiday vari- ety show at 6 p.m. with dancers, live music, spe- cialty acts and a visit from Santa Claus. A fireworks show tops off the program and free Jingle Bus rides will operate from the park for guests to view the city decorations. A kaleidoscope of color decorates three Milwaukee County parks – Cathedral Square Park at North Jefferson and East Wells streets; Pere Marquette Park at West State and Old World 3rd streets and Zeidler Union Square at West Michigan between 3rd and 4th streets. For $1 per person, the Jingle Bus (Coach USA bus) takes visitors on a 40-minute tour throughout downtown. A friendly Public Service Ambassador will also be on board to acquaint visi- tors with downtown attractions. The Jingle Bus operates 6-9 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays, Nov. 16-Dec. 30. The bus departs from The Shops of Grand Avenue, where the festival's NEW Warming House is located at the mall's Center Court, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave. Early arrival is recom- mended, with the last bus departing at 8:20 p.m. Hot cocoa and cookies are served to awaiting Jingle Bus riders and coloring books are distributed to the little ones. The Jingle Bus will have a special route and schedule on Nov. 15, operating from Pere Marquette Park as part of the Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival Kick-Off Extravaganza. (The Jingle Bus will not operate Thanksgiving Day.) Debuting this year are oversized chandelier decora- tions, hung along Wisconsin Avenue at intersections in the heart of downtown. Also new this year are redesigned harp lamp lights, made to resemble the crest of a wave.
