Industry Focus People In The News Following are personnel changes and announcements in the trucking industry: ■ Stertil-Koni announces Rand D. Johnson has joined the company as sales manager for GSA and U.S military customers. ■ Great Dane has announced multiple staff- ing changes. Jon Jeffries has been ap- pointed new vice president and general sales manager, Dave Gilliland will now lead the sales function as vice presi- dent, branch sales, while Dave Durand has been promoted to vice president, aftermarket. Great Dane also has named Roger Wilson general manager of the company's Terre Haute, Ind. parts distri- bution center. ■ Haldex has promoted Liz Macpherson to customer service manager. ■ Noregon Systems has added Brent Hamil as director of national fl eet accounts ■ The Timken Company has appointed Philip D. Fracassa to senior vice presi- dent of planning and development. Johnson ■ Accuride Corporation has appointed Scott D. Hazlett as senior vice president and general manager, Accuride Wheels and Gunite. ■ Volvo Trucks announces Göran Nyberg has been appointed president of North American Sales and Marketing. Macpherson Economic News Th e following is economic news from the trucking industry: ■ Th e Equipment Leasing & Finance Foundation's Monthly Confi dence Index for the Equipment Finance Industry for August shows confi dence in the equipment fi nance market is 50.2, down from the July index of 51.5, refl ecting ongoing industry concerns over economic, regulatory and politi- cal uncertainty. ■ FTR Associates has released preliminary data showing August Class 8 truck net orders at 15,935 units, up 27 percent from July. ■ For-hire trucking companies added 1,400 payroll jobs in August as the overall U.S. economy added 96,000 nonfarm jobs, according to the latest es- timates released Sept. 7, by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Th at's the weakest month-to-month growth in trucking since April, although BLS had revised July fi gures upward by 3,700 before calculating the August change. Tidewater Fleet Supply Honored Tidewater Fleet Supply has been named to Inc. magazine's sixth annual 500/5,000 growth list of fastest growing private companies, checking in at 4,008 of the 5,000 company list. According to Tidewater Fleet Supply, the list repre- sents the most comprehensive list of America' s independent entrepreneurs. "We are honored to be recognized by Inc. magazine as one of America's fastest growing private companies for the second time in six years," says Allan Parrott, president of Tidewater Fleet Supply. Fracassa Hazlett FleetPride Acquires Great Lakes Truck & Trailer FleetPride Inc. has acquired the assets of Great Lakes Truck & Trailer, which include a 15,300-sq.-ſt . facility located at 5912 E. Execu- tive Drive in Westland, Mich. FleetPride says the acquisi- tion, terms of which were not released, marks its fourth en- trance into the greater Detroit area and its ninth location in Michigan. "Th e greater Detroit area is a dense market for heavy-duty truck and trailer business," says Lee Stockseth, FleetPride president and chief operating offi cer. "Adding another location here allows for deeper representation. Th ese branches will work in tandem to quickly source and deliver heavy-duty truck and trailer parts to our local, regional and national customers." Great Lakes Truck & Trailer was founded in 1979 by Dan Cable and is said to have heavy- duty expertise and a commitment to customer- focused service. Employment off ers were extended to 16 team members.
