TL1301-proof 11/28/12 9:58 AM Page 1 BCGSA NEWS BY DAVIN MARR BCGSA FALL WINTER WEBINAR SCHEDULE REPORT Another year has pretty much come to a close and the BCGSA Board is continuing its efforts to provide for our membership. In late 2011 and throughout 2012 we encouraged our members to engage BCGSA PRESIDENT local MLA's with the DAVIN MARR hopes of relaying the importance golf courses play in their respective communities while focusing on what the effect of a provincial pesticide ban would have on our abilities to provide the same conditions our clientele has come to expect. At this time we would like to reiterate the importance of developing these relationships with political figures and would urge anyone with a vested interest in the sport of golf to engage your local MLA (and any other party candidates that will be running for that position in 2013) and discuss the impact of a pesticide ban. If you are unsure what you should be saying, the Allied Golf Association of BC (AGA-BC) has a briefing document that is quite helpful and available through the BCGSA office, the WCTA, or any of the other AGA-BC partner groups. Also on the issue of engaging politicians, we are also encouraging our members to engage their local MP to discuss the need to establish tax fairness for Canada's golf industry. More information can be gathered through the CGSA as well as our November Newsletter. The BCGSA was pleased to partner with the CGSA in promoting its annual Fall Field Day and incorporated a few other fun networking events this year as well. We're pleased to continue our collaborative efforts with the WCTA when we once again provide the Conference Monday Night Social and Dave Creamer Memorial Hockey Game in Penticton on March 4th. Like most associations these days we feel the financial crunch and we are taking a good look at our operations to ascertain what our key objectives, products, and services are and how best to provide them in a financially responsible way. In closing I would request that if you have any complaints and/or suggestions as we move forward to please bring them up with your regional representative so that we can address them as we are here to serve you, the membership. All the best in 2013, Respectfully Submitted, Davin Marr BCGSA President 14 WESTERN CANADA TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION ASSOCIATION NEWS NEW AND RETURNED MEMBERS WCTA new and returned members as of Nov 10, 2012. 2013 membership dues invoices have been sent by mail – if you haven't received an invoice it's probably because we have the wrong contact information for you.
