Nomacorc Expands Global Presence Zebulon, N.C.-based Nomacorc, the world's largest producer of alternative wine closures, in cooperation with Insumos Andinos, Nomacorc's exclusive distributor in Argentina, has opened a manufacturing site located in the San Juan province of Argentina. The opening marks the first phase in a multiyear expansion plan to provide Argentina and regional export markets with locally produced, co-extruded wine closures. PEOPLE Wine Distributors Announce Appointments Two fine-wine and spirits distributors, Charmer Sunbelt Group and Glazer's Distributors, announced the appointment of Shawn Thurman as president of Alliance Beverage Distributing Co., in Phoenix, Ariz. Glazer's has also appointed Bob Smith, formerly Alliance's president and CEO, as its senior vice president for strategic expansion. Thurman returns to Alliance after three years as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Glazer's. New Hire for Tonnellerie Quintessence Guala Closures Launches Turn 360° Napa, Calif.-based Guala Closures Group announced the launch of Turn 360°, a promotional campaign to enhance public awareness of the advantages of aluminum wine closures. Organized through the European Aluminum Foil Association, the campaign includes a multilingual website, www.aluminium-closures.org, providing information on the taste and quality, sustainability, convenience, technology, cost efficiency and design associated with aluminum closures. Amcor Expands Operations B o r d e a u x - b a s e d To n nellerie Quintessence has hired Karen Prusinowski to serve as account manager for the Sonoma, Central Coast, Santa Barbara and Oregon territories of its North American sales team. An experienced sales manager, Prusinowski recently completed the Wine & Spirit Education Trust Level 3 Advanced Certification with merit. Laffort USA Expands Team Petaluma, Calif.-based Laffort USA welcomes Adam LaZarre as the technical representative for the Central Coast area. LaZarre has been in the wine industry nearly 20 years, producing wines in California, Spain and Chile. His experience includes work with Villa San-Juliette and Constellation Brands. He was also part of the team that created the Cycles Gladiator and Rex Goliath brands. Amcor Rigid Plastics has announced a major expansion of its southeastern U.S. bottle manufacturing operation, in response to market demand for beverage and pharmaceutical packaging. The $20 million expansion in Orlando, Fla., which includes a new 500,000-squarefoot facility, enables Amcor to centralize preform manufacturing and warehousing.
