CUSTOM RIGS Diller's Killer KW S cott Diller rescued this 1981 Kenworth W900A from junkyard death four years before it hit its first truck show in the spring of 2011. From the beginning, Diller knew what he wanted and sought the services of Elizabeth Truck Center to help him execute it. "I'm not really a purist, but at the same time, I wanted a hot rod-themed truck," he says. "I wanted to have a 1930s or '40s street rod feel to it." With the help of Elizabethtown, N.Y.-based ETC, Diller lengthened the frame rails, exchanged the truck's short hood for a long one, reskinned the metal, dropped in a new engine and reworked the truck's suspension and cab to make the truck sit "as low as possible." He also added a set of Dynaflex stacks, a Valley Chrome bumper, 12ga. Customs air-ride kit and Kenworth grille bars, and had PDI work some magic under the hood. Smith The roofline of Scott Diller's 1981 Kenworth W900A is about 14 inches lower than a conventional W900A. That, coupled with the low front bumper, gives the truck the rat rod look Diller wanted. To the truck's interior, Diller added a customized metal dash, door panels, headliner, a metal floor, digital gauges and a relocated switch box. 48 | Overdrive | May 2013 CR_Opening Page_0513.indd 48 4/30/13 9:50 PM
