CUSTOM RIGS TUNERS ROUNDUP Pittsburgh Power's Power Box intercepts signals to and from an engine's ECM to change injection timing and pressure to increase throttle response, fuel economy and horsepower. Once installed, it has an in-cab dial that allows a driver or truck owner to change settings as they wish. Pittsburgh Power, pittsburghpower.com, 724-360-4080 Diesel Freak's Power Harness is available for Caterpillar and Cummins engines and, depending on application, can show fuel mileage increases between 1⁄2 and 2 mpg while increasing horsepower by about 90 hp and torque by about 250 ft.-lb., the company says. The primary harness plugs into the fuel temperature harness between an engine's fuel temp sensor and wiring and advances timing on the engine; the other harness plugs into a boost pressure sensor and alters fuel rate, which is adjustable. Diesel Freak, dieselfreak.com, 989-748-4145 Steinbauer's namesake tuner alters injection duration without raising rail pressure or leaving footprints in the engine's computer, the company says; it also uses stock connectors so that no wire cutting is required. The company works with customers for an individualized solution based on what they want to achieve from the engine.
